Hello, hello, chickpeas! It is still August and still summer – I know! However, it will be Septemeber before we know it. I am really going to miss summer, especially because where I live, fall means rain and dark grey skies all day. With that said, there is so much to be excited about when it comes to fall – pumpkin spice, comfort foods, lattes, and cozy sweaters. So, let’s get pumped for fall! Woo! My favourites for the season of fall tend to change year after year, though some things have been staples. This year, though, I have some brand new favourites. For example, last year, I didn’t like any sweet smells or flavours much, but this year I am all about the sweet (but not cloyingly sweet). So, without further ado, let’s get into today’s post!
Hot Apple Cider: I love infusing my apple cider with cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and star anise by simmering it with all the spices until it is piping hot. And I like to throw a few chunks of diced fresh apples in the cup as well.
London fog latte: The ultimate tea latte. It’s classy and comforting and very tasty.
Hot chocolate with whipped cream: A classic! This is a tasty treat that’s perfect for a rainy night of movies and cuddles.
Pumpkin spice latte: Yes…I know, it’s everyone’s favourite! But it’s a favourite for a reason – it’s darn good!
Butternut squash tortellini/ravioli: this is such a glorious comfort meal – you can dress it up by adding large prawns to the dish and drizzling with a sage and brown butter sauce. These are my favourite tortellini to buy, I am sure this brand (or similar) can be found elsewhere, though.
Old country soup: meatballs, potatoes, broccoli and other veggies make this soup a phenomenally cozy, filling, and comforting meal. Goes well with a dollop of sour cream and garlic croutons.
Mashed sweet potatoes with roasted chicken: I have a magic recipe for perfectly juicy, flavorful, roasted chicken and the sweet potato mash is a great side for the chicken.
Kale “Caesar” salad: A unique and healthy twist on the good ol’ Caesar classic.
A cozy robe: I recently purchased myself a new robe and it is ridiculously soft and luxurious. It will definitely be my new favourite fall/winter at-home attire. I got mine here.
Dutch oven: making soups and stews and other fall goodies are always extra tasty when done in a dutch oven.
Jazz music: soft instrumental jazz music create the perfect ambiance for dinner.
Pumpkin patch rides: going to the pumpkin patch and picking out a pumpkin is the most classic fall activity I can think of.
Visiting a farm: going to see the animals (and maybe petting them) as well as checking out the local goods is always a fun and exciting adventure.
DIY crafts: fall home decor DIY crafts are a fun and festive way to get into the sweater weather season.
Work on a recipe book: go through recipes and make your own recipe collection. This activity is a great way to spend a rainy day indoors.
More fall-themed posts will be coming in the next few weeks!
